When we went to pick up Steven from the airport the other day, Emma was reading the signs.
Emma: Mom what does that say?
Me: It says Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Emma: Bush? The airport is named after a plant?
Me: No, it's named after a president.
Emma: Why did our president die?
Me: What are you talking about? Our president didn't die.
Emma: Sam Houston, duh! The president of Texas.
Me: Oh that was a long time ago, he was just old.
Emma: So who's our president now?
Me: George Bush.
Emma: The airport man?
Me: No, his son. But he's not going to be president for much longer. They are a lot of people who are trying to be the next president.
Emma: How do you get to be president?
Me: Well, people vote for you.
Emma: Cool! Like American Idol?
Me: Yeah, kinda like American Idol.
Emma: Well are they going to sing?
Me: No, no singing. Just voting.
Emma: That's too bad, I bet they could all sing better than Mowgli! (aka Sanjaya)
Ah, what are we teaching the youth of our nation?

It might actually make more people interested in politics and vote, if they did have to sing. And if it was as easy as dialing a number for your favorite candidate.
