After 2o years of an awesome career, today Craig Biggio hung up his cleats. We were lucky enough to be there for his final game and what an awesome experience it was! It was crazier than it was at the World Series. Houston fans had come out in full force to say goodbye to one of our hometown heroes. There were several montages of his career, family moments, and highlights of all that he has done for our city.
He was emotional the first time he stepped on the field today, receiving letters, plaques, and awards. How sweet it was when he threw out the first pitch alongside his children. He teared up every at bat and each time he got a standing ovation and the crowd shouting BIG-GI-O. He tipped his hat, waved to us all, and bowed to the Crawford Boxes where so many of his homerun balls have landed. The umpire showed the utmost respect each at bat, dusting home plate off, even when it was clean. Craig cried when he addressed us, his fans, and told us goodbye.
And me? Well I was on the verge of tears most of the game. Of course I have a crazy, mad crush on the guy, but it was more than that. To be a fan for 20 years, to be that invested in a game, to watch someone's whole career, to share all the highlights, and to be there when it ends, that is a moment. And when his daughter, Quinn, walked right in front of me in the popcorn line on her way to the press box and said, "Wow, you're much prettier than my mom" that was a moment as well. Okay she didn't really say that, she just said "excuse me", but she is a beautiful girl!
Thanks for the memories Craig!! You will be missed!
